Thomas Meller
Director of Hotel Development and Operations
Mesoamerican Reef Tourism Initiative (MARTI)
Thomas Meller has over 17 years of experience in managing environmental projects working for the German technical assistance program, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), private sector consulting firms, industry associations and international NGOs.
Subsequent to his post-graduate studies in environmental management Thomas worked in Jamaica combing environmental improvements and hotel operation and, as of July 2000, in the Mexican Caribbean with PA Consulting for USAID, carrying out environmental best practice audits, implementing environmental management systems, preparing hotel properties for sustainable tourism certification and supporting NGOs in environmental education activities.
Since October 2006, Thomas is Director of the Mesoamerican Reef Tourism Initiative’s (MARTI) Hotel Component, managing a broad alliance of local and international partners to implement a Good Environmental Practices program at hotels in the Mexican Caribbean and leading the work on sustainable Siting, Design and Construction of future tourism developments in Quintana Roo. He is based in Amigos de Sian Ka’an in Cancun, Mexico.
