Bing Professor in Human Biology, Stanford University
William H. Durham, Ph.D., CREST Co-Founder and Director at Stanford, is Bing Professor in Human Biology in the Department of Anthropology and Woods Institute for the Environment at Stanford. He specializes in Latin American and has a particular interest in ecotourism as a means to address conservation and development issues in Central America, the Amazon Rain Forest , and Galapagos. Winner of the prestigious MacArthur ‘genius’ award, Bill has authored or edited at least one book a year for the last 18 years. He has been active in Stanford’s travel programs – including 20 trips to the Galapagos Islands, his favorite place, and a trip early last year retracing Charles Darwin’s voyage of the Beagle. When Stanford was named by The Princeton Review of 2008 as #1 of all U.S. universities for “class room and learning experience,” CREST’s research and internship opportunities under Bill’s direction were the first reason given.
